After a huge snow dump Friday evening, the atmosphere in Whistler Village this past Saturday was notably elevated, palpable even. The apres scene is just as much a part of ski culture as the powder.
We thought it might be helpful to give you the inside scoop on Whistler’s world renowned après-ski scene. Let’s dive into the best après-ski experiences Whistler has to offer. This guide is your ticket to unwinding in style after a thrilling day on the slopes.
For a Stef Style upscale après here are my top suggestions. (Please call me before you go so I can come with you!)
Bar Oso: A Spanish-Inspired Cocktail Haven
For exquisite cocktails and Spanish small plates, Bar Oso is a must-visit. This intimate bar offers a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. Location: Whistler Village Square, Open: 3 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: This is one of my absolute favourites. Newly renovated. Charcuterie, wine, fabulous cocktails. Go here if you’re feeling fancy and like treating yourself. Sit by the window for people watching, or at the bar to meet someone new.
Raven’s Room: An Intimate Cocktail Experience
Discover Raven’s Room, a hidden gem known for its artisanal cocktails and intimate setting. It’s the perfect spot for a quiet, sophisticated après-ski experience. Location: Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre, Open: 3 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: If the weather permits, sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere of the mountains. The happy hour menu with the small bites is really good. Try the Spicy Thai Fried Chicken and the Potato Puffs. The cocktails are to die for. I fancy a negroni myself.
The Bar at Araxi: Elegance and Sophistication
For a more upscale après-ski, The Bar at Araxi offers a sophisticated setting with an extensive seafood menu and a world-class wine list. Location: Whistler Village Square, Open: 3 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: I don’t like oysters, but if you do, this is the place to be. I do love a fancy cocktail, though, and the cocktail menu has something for everyone.
If you end your day at the base of Blackcomb, Mallard Lounge at The Fairmont:
Nestled in the luxurious Fairmont Chateau, the Mallard Lounge is the epitome of elegance. With stunning mountain views and a selection of fine wines and spirits, it’s the perfect place to unwind in a sophisticated atmosphere. Location: Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Open: 11 AM – Late.
Stef Notes: The Fairmont has a great happy hour with reasonably priced glasses of wine, beer, and usually a cocktail special. The atmosphere can’t be beat, with big sofas, comfy chairs, and live music. This is a favourite local hangout (especially during the summer at Fairmont Fridays!), so if you’re local, you’re almost guaranteed to run into a friend or two.
If You End Your Day at Creekside:
Dusty’s: A Legendary Stop with a Lively Spirit
Located at the base of Creekside Gondola, Dusty’s is an iconic spot known for its lively atmosphere and historic charm. It’s the ideal place for a hearty meal and a cold drink after a day on the slopes. Location: Creekside, Open: 11 AM – Late.
Stef Notes: Dusty’s is owned by the mountain and is the go-to apres in Creekside. Great patio right at the base of the mountain is prime skier watching. If you’re hungry after a day of skiing, try the potato wedges with the buttrub mayo. Thank me later.
Roland’s Pub: The Cozy Sports Haven
In the heart of Creekside, Roland’s Pub combines the warmth of a neighborhood bar with the excitement of a sports pub. It’s a great spot to catch up on sports while enjoying a range of beers and classic pub fare. Location: Creekside, Open: 11 AM – Late.
Stef Notes: This is a hidden gem, well kept local secret. If you want to fit in, relax, play darts, drink beer with friends, and feel comfortable, Roland’s in Creekside is a great place to do just that.
The Cure Lounge at Nita Lake Lodge: Lakeside Relaxation
Overlooking the tranquil Nita Lake, The Cure Lounge offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. With its cozy fireplace and artisanal cocktails, it’s a haven for those seeking a peaceful après-ski experience. Location: Nita Lake Lodge, Open: 12 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: One of my favourite patios, overlooking Nita Lake, this is a nice tranquil spot. The drinks are good and the burger (for those hungry after skiing) is great.
If Your End Your Day at The Base of Whistler:
Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill: A Spectacular Slopeside Retreat
The Longhorn is synonymous with Whistler Apres, however to people watch we recommend the Garibaldi Lift Co. (or the GLC, as the locals call it). Nestled at the base of Whistler Mountain, Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill offers a panoramic view of skiers descending the slopes. Here, you can enjoy a frosty beer or a signature martini while indulging in gourmet tapas. It’s the perfect spot to relax and watch the mountain action. Location: Whistler Village Gondola Base, Open: 11 AM – Late.
Stef Notes: I like to sit on the heated patio and people watch.
Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub: A Touch of Ireland in Whistler
Experience the warmth of Irish hospitality at Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub. Enjoy hearty Irish fare and an extensive beer selection in a setting that feels like a piece of Dublin in Whistler. Location: Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside, Open: 7 AM – 1 AM.
Stef Notes: If you’ve got Longhorn patio envy, but want good beer and food, the Dubh Linn Gate is a great place. The live Irish Music can’t be beat.
Firerock Lounge: Your Relaxing Hideaway
A stone’s throw from the Village Stroll, Firerock Lounge is the perfect place to unwind. Its cozy ambiance and excellent drink selection make it an ideal spot for a relaxed evening. Location: Westin Resort & Spa, Open: 3 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: Inside the Westin, the Firerock is not really for people watching, but it is a great cozy place for a cocktail with friends.
Earl’s: A Vibrant Social Hub
Situated in the heart of Whistler Village, Earl’s is known for its lively ambiance and diverse menu. Whether you’re in the mood for a craft beer or a delicious meal, Earl’s offers a vibrant setting for all après-ski gatherings. Location: Whistler Village, Open: 11 AM – Late.
Stef Notes: Yes, Earls is a chain. No, I do not care. They usually have space for everyone, the ambiance is great and I love the food menu. There are lots of options from vegans to carnivores and the happy hour is good too.
Black’s Pub: A Family-Friendly Après Experience
Located in the heart of Whistler Village, Black’s Pub is an ideal spot for families and those seeking a quieter après-ski atmosphere. With over 90 beers on tap and a diverse menu, it caters to all tastes. As evening falls, the vibe gradually shifts, offering a more adult-oriented atmosphere. Location: Sundial Crescent, Open: 10 AM – 1 AM.
Stef Notes: Blacks has a decent size patio, well positioned for people watching during apres. Upstairs can give you an even better view of the base of Whistler Mountain.
If You End Your Day at the Base of Blackcomb:
Merlin’s Bar & Grill: Dance the Night Away
Boasting Whistler’s largest outdoor patio, Merlin’s is where après-ski meets dance party. Located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, it’s a favorite for those who love to dance under the stars in a lively, chalet-style setting. Location: Upper Village, Open: 2 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: Merlin’s is owned by the mountain, but there is no denying the ski culture atmosphere here. Lively is an understatement, especially if the Hair Farmers are playing.
RMU: The Skier’s Lounge with a Twist
RMU, short for Rocky Mountain Underground, is more than just a ski shop. It’s a unique lounge offering a great selection of beers and a chance to mingle with fellow ski enthusiasts in a relaxed, friendly environment. Location: Whistler Village, Open: 11 AM – Late.
Stef Notes: RMU is little, but so easy. The beer is good and so is the small menu.
Handlebar: The Craft Beer and Cycling Junction
Handlebar, located in the Upper Village, is a haven for craft beer lovers and cycling enthusiasts alike. With its laid-back atmosphere and excellent beer selection, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and share stories from the trails. Location: Upper Village, Open: 12 PM – Late.
Stef Notes: Another little apres place, but makes you feel at home with the cozy atmosphere, pizza, and good beer.
